All jewelry is incredibly precious to its owner, and we know it is often associated with a happy memory or occasion you will want to cherish forever. However the metals used in jewelry-making are soft and malleable so that they can be crafted to the precision required. They need regular care to ensure that they last a lifetime- and careful cleaning and caring for your jewelry means you will enjoy its beauty forever. So here are some tips to help you keep them always sparkling at their best!

  • Remove jewelry before showering or washing. Soap can cause a film to form on jewelry which can leave it looking dull.
  • Wiping with a soft cloth is an effective and inexpensive way to keep jewelry clean and polished.
  • Do not ever use toothpaste to clean jewelry. This home remedy is too abrasive and will damage your jewelry in the long run.
  • Be careful of chlorine. Especially at high temperatures, it can permanently damage and discolour jewelry.
  • Do not wear gold or silver while using chlorine bleach.
  • Do not wear gold or silver while in a swimming pool or hot tub.
  • At the end of the day, wipe your jewelry with an anti-tarnish cloth before storing it away. This will make sure any lingering moisture, oils or dust is gone.
  • You can remove everyday build-ups of tarnish with jewelry cleaner. After brushing, simply rinse with lukewarm water and leave to dry.
  • Always clean earring hooks with a disinfectant swab before wearing new earrings.
  • Apply make-up, hair spray and perfume before putting on jewelry. The chemicals in these products can damage the finish of the precious metal and could also damage the gemstones.
  • Avoid keeping jewelry and gemstones in direct sunlight for long periods.

Above all, remember to put your pieces on rotation because all jewelry isn’t meant to be worn 24/7. Give it a break and show some love to other pieces of jewelry, So there you go- let us know what methods work best for you in the comments below!
